I know I really am turning into an old fart because everything has changed in the five years since I was last here. For instance, the above picture was taken, sometime mid-last century, at Alfreton Lido an outdoor swimming pool where I learned to swim. Outdoor and swimming pool ought not to go together here - we often used to turn blue. Even in the summer. Anyway it is gone. A Health Center stands in it's place. Lots of other places have gone by the way too. The citizens of Alfreton now worship at the shrine of Tesco. It's where the Police Station and the Drill Hall used to be. I wouldn't deny anybody the right to a good selection of groceries at a reasonable price, but it's monstrous. It was shopping Hell in there on Sunday morning.
I used the rainy day yesterday to scan old family photos. Here for your amusement are some of me as a kid.

What a cute kid! You look like Henry. And your hair is straight. Hope you're having a good time. I cut hydrangeas this morning and thought of you. Are you getting any interesting genaology done?
How come your hair was so straight in those days?
Wowsers! I love looking at old photos! Hope you are having fun! It is hot here! Puppetguy.
I was never allowed to have long hair when I was a little girl. When it's short, and brushed and combed, it can be quite straight. Shock, horror - these days, I never brush or comb my hair!!! And of course, except for a brief experiment with punk in the early 80s, I keep it long (and curly).
Les, I know you are having a blast. Barry and I are reliving our Oxford experience through you.
Great childhood photos.
What did Henry put in the microwave?
